Learning Resources for Teachers and Students

Choosing the right online learning platform can be challenging for educators as the options are endless in today's technology world. However, there are a few tried and true online digital learning resources that your students are sure to love and are an excellent addition to your instruction in the classroom.

Today, I will share four digital learning resources I love and how I have implemented them in my classroom.

Epic!

Epic is the world's most extensive digital library for kids. It is kid-safe, interactive, and fuels children's imagination as they explore thousands of books. The application is an excellent resource for teachers as they can create an online classroom where books can be assigned on various topics that extend the learning in the classroom. For young readers, teachers can assign "read to me" books like audiobooks where the words are magnified as they are read. Finding hardcopy books that interest children can be difficult in some rural areas. Epic is an excellent tool for accessing books that interest young readers.

Kahn Academy Kids

Kahn Academy Kids is a comprehensive early learning resource that can help children get individual practice with foundational reading skills. Teachers can utilize this learning tool in the classroom as a learning station, homework, or computer lab activity. Children may follow a learning path or choose from the library of activities. The platform engages as a collection of animals guides children through each lesson.

BrainPop Jr.

BrainPop Jr. is an excellent online learning platform for teachers to incorporate into their instruction. BrainPop Jr provides short videos on various topics categorized by subjects such as reading, math, science, social studies, health, and arts and technology. Teachers can use the resource to spark their student's interest in a new topic or reinforce what they have already learned in class. I use BrainPop Jr. when introducing a new topic as it sparks curiosity and is an excellent conversation starter.

Kahoot

Kahoot is an online game platform that allows teachers to run game-like quizzes while students play online against classmates and earn points for correct responses. There are many different quizzes or Kahoots to choose from. Teachers can also make their slideshow kahoots based on the content they want to teach. I love this resource for reviewing previously taught material as it reinforces students' knowledge of the subject. My students love playing Kahoot on Fun Fridays!

I hope you enjoyed reading about these fantastic digital learning resources. Incorporating technology in the classroom doesn't have to be hard. Each resource discussed today is user-friendly and developmentally appropriate for young learners.
